Chelsea hoping to land £26m La Liga midfielder next summer

Chelsea are battling Manchester City and London rivals Arsenal for the signature of former Stoke City midfielder Steven N’Zonzi, who’s currently enjoying his second season at Sevilla, Estadio Deportivo reports.

The 28-year-old has a £26m buy-out on his contract with the La Liga side, and could be on the move next summer with loads of quality performances attracting the interest of several European top teams.

The same source believes that the player’s actual price is a lot closer to £40m and that Sevilla are desperate to tie down a new deal for the Frenchman. However, the player’s agent is struggling to find a pleasing option for his client and the negotiations over a contract extension have stalled.

N’Zonzi has made more successful passes than any other player in the Spanish top-flight, completing a solid 88.6% of them.

He started his professional career from French side Amiens SC, and was later discovered by Blackburn Rovers and then signed by Stoke City. After three years with the Potters he made a £7m move to the Spanish outfit in 2015.
