Chelsea denied permission to play at Twickenham as Wembley move looks increasingly likely

Earlier this morning, MP for Twickenham Dr Tania Mathias revealed that the head of the RFU has guaranteed that Chelsea will not be able to play at the “home of rugby” while Stamford Bridge is being redeveloped.

That’s according to the Evening Standard, who carry the story that the MP sent a letter to RFU chief Ian Ritchie, which he has already responded to.

Her letter raised concerns about an increase in “match-day traffic”, “litter”, “public urination and other antisocial behaviour”.

Ritchie’s rapid reply assured her that “there is no intention to host regular football matches at Twickenham”.

All of this comes in the wake of last week’s landmark decision by Hammersmith and Fulham council to grant Chelsea planning permission for the redevelopment of Stamford Bridge, a project that will require the Blues to find a temporary home for three years.

With Twickenham now seemingly out of the question, it looks like Chelsea are on their way to Wembley… again.
