Antonio Conte gives winger 14 days to prove himself before he is sent to Rome

Italian paper Gazzetta dello Sport has claimed that Chelsea winger Charly Musonda will join Italian side Roma on loan, but only after training with the Blues for two weeks to give Antonio Conte a look at him.

Musonda has only just returned from Betis, where his loan was cut short due to a lack of minutes. Roma are keen to get a backup for Mo Salah, another Chelsea winger who initially joined on loan. The Chelsea boss wants to keep the 20 year old at Cobham for a while so he can get a better idea of whether he wants to keep him around for the rest of the season, or whether a loan to Italy is indeed the best plan.

The logic of the deal can be questioned a little – Roma are a far better team than Betis, with far better players. If Musonda was struggling for minutes at the latter, he’s only going to find things more difficult at the former. But as always, we have faith that Conte will make the right call.
