Antonio Conte asks Chelsea board to ‘make an effort’ for £61m striker

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has asked Chelsea’s hierarchy to ‘make an effort’ on signing Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata this summer, with Diego Costa set to leave the club at the end of the season.

Sport, via Metro reports that the 24-year-old Spaniard is keen to move away from the La Liga leaders for not starting enough games under Zinedine Zidane this season.

Morata, having started just 10 games in all competitions this season, fancies a move back to Serie A champions Juventus, but has also been linked with a Chelsea switch since last summer, when Conte already ear-tagged the forward as a top transfer target.

Sport also claims that the Blues would be prepared to pay Real Madrid the full £61.5m for the player, as Conte has already contacted the head of the club to make the deal happen.

Morata already hinted at the possibility of moving to Chelsea last summer, when he admitted Conte’s interest and a big-money offer from the side.

Chelsea showed the most interest.

Antonio Conte had already signed me for Juventus.

And it was a very good offer this time. I would have been the most expensive Spanish player ever.

Chelsea are in need of a new first-team striker, as the Blues are set to lose their star man Diego Costa at the end of the season, with the 29-year-old not agreeing to sign a new deal with the Premier League leaders.
