If there’s one thing that the press are certain of it’s that Chelsea are going to sign a midfielder in January. The rumour mill has been churning names from Marcelo Brozovic to Milan Badelj for months now, and with the opening of the window approaching we are reaching the point where he may have to start taking some of them seriously.
One of those most regularly named is ex-Stoke midfielder Steven N’Zonzi, and the race appears to be on against Man City to bring the Sevilla midfielder back to the Premier League.
Italian transfer site Calcio Mercato confidently claim that he Frenchman has a €30m buyout clause, which certainly wouldn’t be out of Chelsea’s range financially. Cesc Fabregas has performed well as a third choice player in the middle of the park, but more options are needed, and N’Zonzi looks like the dream man to challenge Nemanja Matic for a spot in the engine room.
