Chelsea plotting January move for Belgian midfielder

Chelsea midfielder Charly Musonda is currently on a one-season long loan spell at La Liga side Real Betis after impressing in the Spanish top-flight last campaign, but has returned to his host club after suffering a knee injury which he’ll be receiving treatment to at West London, AS reports.

The 20-year-old attacking midfielder had his best season yet last term with the Spanish club, but hasn’t been to his best this season making just eight appearances. He was rumoured to be part of Antonio Conte’s plans this summer, but an obvious choice for him was to return to Spain and continue his development there, stating that it’s his ‘dream’ to play in the Premier League one day.

Real Betis’ sporting director Miguel Torricella acknowledged Musonda’s current problem and said it’s possible for Chelsea to terminate his loan contract earlier than planned. He says anything could happen between the two clubs.

I understand, because it is normal a big club wants one of its assets to play.

He is a [Chelsea] player but we’ll see what happens between now and then, and the end of campaign.

It’s unlikely that Musonda’s performances this season are ready to grant him a return ticket to the Chelsea team. It’s better for him to keep focusing on his current loan spell at Betis and see what’s laying ahead next summer.
