Chelsea enter January transfer battle for German international

Chelsea are fighting for the signature of AS Roma defender Antonio Rudiger among three other Premier League teams this January, Mail reports.

The 23-year-old center-back was strongly linked with a move to Chelsea this summer, but he suffered an unfortunate knee injury ahead of Germany’s EURO2016 campaign which ruled him out of the competition.

He’s made a quick recovery and is back on the chart of one of the most promising players in the continent, and now targeted by Chelsea, Liverpool and both Manchester clubs.

Rudiger is a key player in AS Roma’s team, but the Serie A side could be forced to sell the versatile defender to comply with Financial Fair Play regulation.

The team manager Luciano Spalletti doesn’t want to sell the player, but knows his hands will be tied should an offer big enough arrive.

Rudiger has also been named in the headlines recently for being racially abused by Lazio left-back Senad Lulic.
