Chelsea defender agrees deal in principle to join Turkish side

Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic has agreed a deal in principle to join Turkish side Besiktas, according to Haberler, as reported by the Express.

The Express cite Haberler in reporting that our rugged centre-back-cum-right-back is in negotiations with Besiktas over a summer move. His contract expires at the end of the season and thus he is free to negotiate a move to his next club from January onward.

Ivanovic has been out-of-favour at Stamford Bridge ever since Antonio Conte took the reigns. The Italian has preferred to use Victor Moses at right-wing-back as a more attacking option. After the Nigerian was voted PFA Fan’s player of the month for November, it would seem absurd to drop him to accommodate Ivanovic.

After all these years, the end of Ivanovic’s Chelsea career does appear to be on the horizon. Memories of his winner in the Europa League final in Amsterdam and stunning finish against Napoli in our Champions League winning campaign will forever be two of the most iconic in the club’s history.
