Solanke close to new Chelsea deal after lowering wage demands

Chelsea are close to agreeing a new deal with young striker Dominic Solanke after the player complied to lower his wage demands, The Times reports.

The talks over a new contract begun towards the end of last season, but after the 19-year-old’s over-the-moon salary insistence of £50,000-a-week, negotiations have taken longer than first expected.

However, Solanke has given up on his demands and according to his representatives he’s ready to accept a new deal worth half of the amount – £25,000-a-week.

That would nevertheless be a huge improvement to his current £7,000-a-week deal with the club.

Solanke is yet to play for Chelsea this season, after being denied the opportunity to go out on loan by the manager Antonio Conte.

The England U21 international made his breakthrough in the club’s academy in 2014 progressing to Chelsea’s senior set-up.

He spent last season on loan at Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem, where he scored seven goals in 26 appearances.

Solanke was one of the unused substitutes in the Blues’s last Premier League victory over Leicester, which boosted the speculation of a new contract closing to an agreement.
