Lampard wants to become Chelsea manager

Chelsea legend Frank Lampard has told he wants to take charge of his former club, as soon as he retires from his footballing career.

The 38-year-old midfielder is currently enjoying his life in the United States, as the ex-England international is playing for the MLS side New York City FC.

Lampard spent 13 years of his career in the Blues shirt, winning titles of the Premier League, Europa League and of course the Champions League, before spending a season with Manchester City – where he even netted against Chelsea – but his bond with the Stamford Bridge crowd has remained strong.

In an interview for Sky Sports, Lampard says he didn’t really fancy a managerial role at first, but has now set his sights on one day patrolling the Blues’ touchline.

There was a period earlier in my career where I really fancied it, then I thought I don’t fancy the managerial thing.

Now, I’m back onto it. The problem is I’ve got to get my badges and the hard thing for me is to have time to do it.

He also jokes it’ll be a difficult decision, as he only wants the Chelsea job instead of taking over any other club.

As soon as I finish playing I’d like to take it up and maybe be a manager. It’s hard, though, because I only want the Chelsea job.

As a Chelsea man or not, the job is one of the pinnacles of football, they are one of the top clubs in the world now. And I’m a Chelsea man.

It might be a different route for me and might take a while but the dream would be to manage Chelsea one day. If I was good enough, if they wanted me and it was the right time.

With 211 goals for the club, Lampard is still the all-time top scorer at Chelsea with 11 major trophies with the West London side.
