Leicester City vs. Chelsea – Match Preview

Chelsea went through to the 3rd round of the EFL Cup after beating Bristol Rovers 3-2 at home four weeks ago. However, the upcoming fixture is likely to be slightly less one-sided in Chelsea’s favour as last time (despite the close-gapped result there really was just one team in the game), as the Blues travel to face the reign Premier League champions Leicester.

While Leicester left behind a 3-0 hammering over Burnley last Saturday, Chelsea are looking to bounce back from their first loss of the season, as Antonio Conte’s side were all in all outclassed by Liverpool last Friday night.

Chelsea aren’t confirmed to be putting too much effort on the League Cup, which could see Conte starting a very resolute eleven tomorrow. More on that on Team News down below.

Team News:

Antonio Conte hinted Chelsea new boy Marcos Alonso to make his Chelsea debut tomorrow, as the Spanish left-back, who was signed for £23m from Fiorentina as deadline day signing, is yet to feature for his new side.

Not many changes should be expected from the Italian, but it’s likely that a few players will be rested. Michy Batshuayi, who scored twice on the 2nd round of the cup, is expected to start upfront instead of Diego Costa, and a chance to impress might also be given to striker-apprentice Ruben Loftus-Cheek, like last time out.

Asmir Begovic could replace out-of-form Thibaut Courtois on goal, while Victor Moses and Cesc Fabregas are also tipped to start.

One To Watch:

Islam Slimani: The new Foxes man enjoyed a dream debut for Leicester City against Burnley last weekend, as the Algerian forward scored a lovely brace to help his team overcome the Premier League newboys 3-0. He might be a fresh man in Claudio Ranieri’s team, but should he be played right from the start, Chelsea defenders will have to hope for the best and fear for the worst as they face the former Sporting hitman.

Predicted XI:

Begovic; Azpilicueta, David Luiz, Cahill, Alonso; Moses, Fabregas, Kante, Hazard; Loftus-Cheek, Batshuayi. (4-4-2)
