Conte: ‘Don’t judge me too soon’

Antonio Conte has fired a shady warning to Chelsea’s higher powers, as he claims that for the club owner to only care about the amount of wins, it may actually be a ‘big mistake’, Daily Mirror reports.

After only claiming one point from the last two games – a draw against Swansea and a loss to Liverpool – Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is reportedly not as satisfied with Conte’s performances as he would’ve hoped for.

This puts even more signifigance to Chelsea’s trip to the Emirates Stadium, as the Blues face Arsenal tonight on a crucial London Derby.

Conte has praised the strong bond between Arsenal’s manager Arsene Wenger and the club itself, as the Frenchman is still – after 20 years of time – leading his men to a new Premier League season.

It’s fantastic if someone is able to stay for 20 years in the same club. There is satisfaction in both sides. Sometimes I think it’s important, when you’re a manager, not only to think about win, lose or draw.

The manager must also coach every day. If you see a manager works very well and, during the season you can’t always win, you must view him for his (wider) work. Sometimes if you judge only on wins, you make a big mistake and pay for this in the future.

When you win you must understand which way you won. Sometimes the win isn’t from a solid base. When there’s a good work behind you, and you can see that every day in training, I’m sure if I’m a director then I know a coach or manager is doing very well.

If we don’t win the next game, I’m sure we will in the future. But if I’m a director and I don’t see that basis of work, you can win a game but not be sure it will go on. I think the club must value the work a coach puts in, in general. My answer is related to Arsenal with Wenger, because he is doing a good job.
