Conte: ‘Chelsea only good on the paper’

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has warned his players to live up to their reputations after the Blues suffered a heavy 3-0 loss to Arsenal last Saturday night, Express reports.

First half goals from Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott and Mesut Özil were enough to kill the game against the Italian’s side, as crucial errors from Chelsea’s defence were once again to be blamed for.

Conte spoke to the press after the defeat at Emirates Stadium, and stated that Chelsea are only a good team on the paper at the moment – not a good team on the field.

If someone thinks this season is easy, we must work a lot to improve and change the situation because now we are a great a team on the paper, not on the pitch.

I prefer to be a great team, not on paper, but also on the pitch because the pitch speaks the truth, the pitch is the most important thing for us. Not the words, not the paper.

Despite the bad run of results in the league, only claiming one point from the last three games, the former Juventus boss is determined to turn things around.

We must change this. Last season was a bad season and last season we were a great team on the paper. This team we want to be a great team also on the pitch.

There are many difficulties but if we understand this we are in a good position to recover and to change the situation.

The result leaves Chelsea eight in the table with eight points’ margin to league leaders Manchester City, who have won all six of their first games under new manager Pep Guardiola.
