The latest on James Rodriguez’s future has been revealed

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has said that James Rodriguez will be staying put this season.

The Colombian attacker had emerged as a target for the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Juventus. But after Madrid’s 2-1 win over Celta Vigo on Saturday, the French coach insisted that Rodriguez will be at Madrid when the transfer window closes.

“James improved the team; he’s staying here”, said Zidane via Spanish publication AS.

He looked good to me and that wasn’t easy in a game like this. He had a chance to score. He’s staying. Both of them [James and Lucas] did improve the game a little for us. That’s what substitutes are there for, to improve the team. The players grew towards the end and that is what is important.

With just four days left in the transfer window, the Blues are frantically searching for new signings in the hopes of shoring up the team’s defence and strengthening the attack.

After Chelsea’s 3-0 win over newly promoted Burnley on Saturday, Antonio Conte explained that he was working with the board to find improvements for the squad. However, he claimed to be happy with the players currently at his disposal.

We are working close together, the club and I, and we are trying to find the right solutions to improve this squad. We have four days to find this, but I am pleased to work with the squad I have.

Chelsea have made it three wins out of three under Conte and now sit atop the standings in the Premier League. They have also scored the most goals in the division, having registered seven so far.
