Atsu completes Newcastle loan

Chelsea have reached an agreement to loan Christian Atsu to the championship side Newcastle United on a one year loan deal, the club have confirmed.

The season long loan will end with an option to buy the 24-year-old on permanent basis, as he will be Newcastle United’s 12th signing under ex Chelsea manager Rafa Benitez.

The Ghanaian international who joined the club for £3.5m from the Portuguese club Porto in 2013 is still waiting to make an appearance in Chelsea’s senior side.

Since joining the Blues Atsu has become one of many in a long list to be loaned out to other clubs after flourishing on spells at Vitesse Arnhem, Everton, Bournemouth and Malaga.

In his last loan spell at Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth side he struggled with injury problems and fitness issues, and ended his loan spell at the turn of the year in January after just two EFL Cup appearances, later moving on to a short loan at the Spanish side Malaga.
