Who should Chelsea sign: £70m Morata, £75m Lukaku or £42m Cavani?

Chelsea are being widely linked with a move for new striker, and three names; Alvaro Morata, Romelu Lukaku and Edinson Cavani, are standing out from the rest. This makes us, Chelsea fans, have to decide who should we prefer the club signing?

After Diego Costa’s back-up duo of Alexandre Pato and Radamel Falcao left the club, it’s expected that Loic Remy will as well follow. Chelsea also captured the promising Belgian Michy Batshuayi as their first signing of the summer, and he’s likely to be cooperating with Costa upfront in Antonio Conte’s two-forward formation.

Michy Batshuayi is enjoying his life at Chelsea.

Batshuyai and Costa are very similar for their roles and it would be wise if Chelsea went for a striker who can really offer something more, something special compared to our two current main men.

From the three attackers named right in the start, who should we go for? Well, to help you decide, here are my brief opinions on each option.

Alvaro Morata (Real Madrid)

Alvaro Morata spent the last two seasons on loan at Juventus, but is now back at Real Madrid.

Conte’s main reason to keep Costa at the squad was rumoured to be for him to complete his dream of partnering the 27-year-old with Alvaro Morata. However, there really doesn’t seem to be any truth behind that statement, but I’m sure Conte wouldn’t mind setting his team with the two compadres upfront.

The manager loves the player, but how are the board coping with his £70m valuation from Real Madrid, who are seemingly ready to do their everything to keep the former Juve star at Santiago Bernabeu. Real Madrid recently rejected a bid as high as £63m from Chelsea and demand nothing less than £67m for letting the player enter negotiations with another club.

Alvaro Morata enjoyed which was a personally good Euro tournament, as he scored three goals in four games for Spain.

Morata is just 23-years-old and it’s just as much a risk as it is (potentially) an amazing piece of business from the club. Signing Morata could either go down in the history books for its success, or just as probably seen as another reason why Chelsea is the ‘graveyard’ for star players. I suppose that’s more likely if he gets the cursed number 9 shirt!

Morata has a hefty asking price but for his true talent it may be worth taking the risk of him being able to adapt to football and lifestyles here in our country.

Romelu Lukaku (Everton)

Romelu Lukaku joined Everton following his limited chances in a Chelsea shirt.

The Blues have been keen on re-signing the former Chelsea man from the start of the transfer window, but after several tries they seemed to have given up for him. However, since Chelsea’s £63m pursuit for Morata was turned down, the interest on the Belgium international is back on.

For the record, Lukaku isn’t the guy I personally would care to put my trust on when it gets to serious circumstances during big games. His Euro 2016 performances give me a good reason why not to have too much faith in the big man, as despite his two goals against Ireland, Lukaku barely gave anything for the team who were knocked out against Wales later in the knock-out stages.

Chelsea are reportedly ready to pay no more than £50million for their ex-man – which is the sum of a bid they were believed to have made for Lukaku this week – but Everton are trying to ward off Chelsea by demanding a club-record transfer fee of £75m to get him to return to Stamford Bridge.

That whereabouts gives me, and the ones who agree with me, 75 reasons not to use that money on him. Lukaku’s inconsistency and too big of similarity with Costa and Batshuayi is not worth that much, if anything really. We don’t want nor need three same type of forwards to our team, and signing a man who we let go for £25m to join a club in Merseyside is not the one we should go back for.

Edinson Cavani (Paris St. Germain)

Edinson Cavani for Paris Saint-Germain.

Now this is a name that goes well along with players like Hulk and Pogba who we every summer are linked with but end up having no results with. It was reported this week that Chelsea are back in the race to sign the Uruguayan, as they made a €50m bid for the forward. However PSG countered The Blues by asking €80m.

The Ligue 1 side are reluctant to sell Cavani after Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s departure, but it’s expected that Cavani still wants to go and look for a new adventure. With Chelsea clearly aware of Cavani’s few unhappy seasons on the bench as Zlatan’s back-up, it could be very possible for Chelsea to find a deal with the 29-year-old.

Edinson Cavani squeezes PSG into a 2-1 win over Chelsea in last season’s Champions League encounter.

The Enigma is in my opinion the best choice for Chelsea to go for if we’re unable to lure Morata away from Spain, as his quality is the most guaranteed compared to the other two alternatives. Cavani is a versatile forward who can play both wide and upfront and has the ability to decide matches in the dying minutes of the game, like he did against Chelsea last season in the Champions League. Rat.

Despite his big cause of problems to our club when facing us in a Napoli and PSG shirt, it would be great to finally pull this deal through and sign him this summer. If you can’t beat them, sign them, right?
