England v Russia

Late disappointment from England again after running the match till the end of the game. A lack of mistakes from Gary Cahill can fill England and Chelsea fans full of hope for the games ahead and as usual putting his body on the line for the cause.

A great free kick from Eric Dier in the 73 minute set England off for 1-0 and we’re looking very likely to win in the remaining few minutes but in the end a few collective defensive mistakes lead to Russia getting a very late goal from Berezutski in the 92 minute. England are left still waiting to win their first game in a European Championship.

Spain v Czech Republic

Gerard Pique scored a late goal in the 87th the only goal in a 1-0 win for Spain in their first game of the tournament. Chelsea fans can be pleased with the performance from Cesc Fàbregas both attacking and defensively after a goal line clearance from the midfielder. Pedro also featured in the game in the late stages providing more stability in the midfield.

Unfortunately Cesar Azpilcueta did not feature in the game. There was many chances for both teams to score throughout the game but overall Spain ran the game and great defending at points from Spain kept the final score at 1-0.

Belgium v Italy

Slow start from both teams Italy managed to keep Chelsea’s Eden Hazard quiet. Pele had a good chance before the 30 minute mark but went wide. Giaccherini opened the scoring in 32nd minute beating a poor defensive setup which left Chelsea’s goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois vulnerable and Italy went 1-0 up. In the 34th minute Chelsea’s stopper was called in again for an excellent shot from Candreva which was deflected over the bar for a corner. Pace started to speed up before the 45 minute mark with chances for both teams and at half time it stood 1-0.

The pace of the game continued after the first half with chances still coming for both sides. Hazard played a more central role after the 60 minute mark after a Belgian substitution in which Belgium still found it hard to break down Italy’s defence after numerous chances. Courtois made some stunning saves towards the end of the game whilst at the other end there was plenty of chances for Belgium to score but nothing went their way on the night and it ended 2-0 after another great goal for Italy from Pele in the 92nd minute and again a poor defencive mistake from Belgium.
