Official: John Terry, Chelsea’s Captain, signs for one year

John Terry — Captain, Leader, Legend — signed a new one-year contract today with Chelsea, ending speculation (or fear) that we’d seen his last game for the Blues. In an official statement, we’ve learned the extension only materialized after meetings with new coach Antonio Conte, owner Roman Abramovich, and the board with Terry last month.

I am delighted to sign a new contract with the club. Everyone knows I’m Chelsea through and through. I am looking forward to next season under the new manager and hopefully we can make it a successful one. Also, a special mention to the fans for their continued support. You’re the best in the world. — John Terry

Speaking publicly for only the second time, Chelsea Director Marina Granovskaia also commented on the news.

We look forward to another year with John at the club, and believe he will be an important figure in the dressing room and on the pitch as we look to bring success back to the club next season.

Now, business concluded, Chelsea should attack the transfer market wilth force knowing that they completed the hardest possible signing of all — attracting a homegrown, renowned defender, and established Premier League captain on reduced wages. That John Terry kid just might be something next season.
