Juventus closing in on £20m deal for Chelsea star as Conte prepares clearout

Juventus are close to clinching a £20 million deal for Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic at the end of the season, Daily Express reports.

Talks between the Italians and the player have gone on for over a week, and the Serie A side seem confident that a deal can be struck.

The 27-year-old has suffered a drop in form this season alongside other Chelsea teammates, and could be one of the first players to depart under new manager Antonio Conte.

Last season when Chelsea cruised to win their fifth Premier League title, Matic was a model of consistency in the deeper midfield and hailed as one of the league’s best players.

However the Serbian international has failed to retain a place in the team selection this campaign after José Mourinho’s sacking in December, as the interim manager Guus Hiddink has preferred to play John Obi Mikel ahead of Matic.

Chelsea originally signed Matic in 2009, but as the Serb failed to make a breakthrough, he was later included in a swap deal with Benfica defender David Luiz. Chelsea later had to pay £21m for the Portuguese side to get the player back to Stamford Bridge.
