Chelsea vs Tottenham – Match Preview

Preview

Chelsea face Tottenham tomorrow night in a fixture which has proved to be absolutely huge for a number of reasons.

With Leicester today drawing 1-1 at Old Trafford, Chelsea can officially end Tottenham’s title charge with either a win or a draw. This is an absolute must with Tottenham being our biggest rival and would give Chelsea huge bragging rights for years to come.

Any result stopping Tottenham winning the league would also be one of the only positives in an awful season.

Chelsea also haven’t lost to Tottenham in the league at Stamford Bridge in 26 years! Another reason why we must avoid defeat. A lot of has changed since then and Chelsea have won every trophy possible whereas Spurs on the other hand haven’t enjoyed anywhere near the same amount of success.

The squad will certainly not want to be tarnished with another label either, as the squad to lose at home to Tottenham, after a disastrous season.

Before the Bournemouth game, many would have had little confidence going into tomorrow night but after a positive display on the South Coast with improved performances from both Hazard and Matic, we should head into tomorrow night with good confidence and momentum, definitely capable of getting a result.

This week a number of Chelsea fans also went down with banners to White Hart Lane and then our training ground in Cobham yesterday to show the players just how much tomorrow means to the fans. With that in mind the players have to turn up and show a lot of fight unlike many of our performances this season.

Match Details

Monday, 2nd May, kick off at 8pm (UK Time) at Stamford Bridge on Sky Sports 1.

Recent Form

In Chelsea’s last 5 game we have managed 2 wins (Aston Villa and Bournemouth), drawn 1 (West Ham) and lost 2 (Man City and Swansea).

Whereas Tottenham have been more consistent winning 3 (Bournemouth, Man United and Stoke) and drawn 2 (Liverpool and West Brom).

Team News

Guus Hiddink expects both John Terry and Gary Cahill to be back in the squad tomorrow night after overcoming injury and illness respectively. However he says Terry will struggle to play the full 90 minutes.

Thibaut Courtois will also serve the 2nd match of his 2 match suspension while Dele Alli will also be suspended.

Bentaleb will be out for Tottenham after undergoing surgery on his knee and Eric Dier will have a late test after suffering concussion last week.

My Prediction

Chelsea 2-2 Tottenham
