Chelsea midfielder turns down lucrative Fenerbahce offer

Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has reportedly turned down a big-money move to Turkish side Fenerbahce, according to The Sun.

The Nigeria international – who was named as the new captain of the national side last month – has thrown himself in the frame of a new contract at the Blues by snubbing a move away from the club.

While the 29-year-old is yet to be offered an extension to his Chelsea spell ending in one year, Galatasaray have also matched their Istanbul rival’s massive £100,000-per-week offer.

Mikel fell out of favour at Chelsea under José Mourinho, but regained his place in the line-up currently starting most of the games with interim manager Guus Hiddink in charge.

The defensive midfielder has been linked with a move to Turkey in several occasions, as Besiktas were also close sealing the deal for him last summer.

Mikel has been a loyal long-serving player for the West London club for the past ten years, but reportedly requires first team football for next season should he sign a new deal at Stamford Bridge.
