Cahill wants big reaction from Chelsea after unacceptable season

Chelsea defender Gary Cahill has labelled last season as unacceptable after finishing 10th in the league and not winning silverware just 12 months after claiming the Premier League trophy.

The campaign had a terrible start after Eva Carneiro left the club following a clash between the physio and José Mourinho, who later got sacked in December.

Guus Hiddink came in for his second interim spell at Stamford Bridge, but was unable to raise the team hovering just above relegation zone to the European spots during his time at the club.

And the English center-back Gary Cahill told the club’s official website that the whole team are ready to forget the past and go into the new season under incoming Antonio Conte with high hopes.

The season was not good at all, it was obviously disappointing and it didn’t go to plan for us, but all we can do now is go again next season.

We know it is unacceptable for a club like Chelsea to have a season like we have had this year. We take this bad taste in the mouth into next year because we don’t want to have it again.

We don’t want to have a period of playing football matches for nothing. It is the worst feeling ever so we need to remember this time. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger and we need to be stronger for this.

The 30-year-old stopper captained his national side to a 2-1 win over Turkey at Wembley yesterday, and is in the England squad who flies to France this summer to compete in the European Championship.
