Chelsea U19s 2-1 PSG U19s – Match Report

Despite a dark and gloomy season for the first team, a different story can be told about the clubs youth system. At the start of the day the young blues were on the brink of making history, by being the first team in all formats to retain a European trophy but a team slowly becoming the clubs arch rival; Paris Saint-Germain were the only team stopping them from this illustrious trophy.

Chelsea were obviously favourites from the off as the young Parisians had never got past the group stages in previous years, but this game showed how far they have come in the space of a year.

The blues dominated the opening stages and put an immense about of pressure on the French side and reaped their reward as the ball was whipped in from the corner, it arrived at Clarke-Salter’s feet who proceeded to create a chance but was denied by a sublime block, Tomori noticed that the ball was loose and tucked it away to put the holders into the lead.

Moments after Tomori had put Chelsea into the lead, the Canadian born gave away a foolish penalty to allowing the Parisians back into the side but Bradley Collins had different plans as he predicted the side in which Augustin would attempt to place the ball.

Chelsea continued to dominate the proceedings and looked to create more opportunities as Kasey Palmer picked the ball up in the middle of the the oppositions half and released a beautifully hit strike but was denied by an even better save from Remy Deschamps. It was comfortable for the blues for the remainder of the half.

The second half was a completely different, as PSG came out of the blocks quickly looking to claw back the game like they did against Real Madrid in the previous round, and within the first 15 minutes they had equalised thanks to sublime effort from Miete, who had cut in from the left flank and release and incredible shot into the bottom corner that had Collins helpless.

Similar narrative to the first half, the team that had just conceded went onto the attack straight away, but this time it resulted in a goal. Mukhtar Ali noticed the run of Kasey Palmer who ran with the ball and calmly placed the ball past the oncoming goalkeeper.

From then on the Parisian piled the pressure on the young blues but with no prevail. Chelsea managed to hold on and cement their names in the history books.

In the competitions three year existence, the London club has already won it twice but sadly won’t be in the competition next season due to it mimicking the senior team Champions league group stage.
