John Terry’s possible opportunities under Antonio Conte

John Terry’s time at Chelsea will be coming to the end this summer, if Antonio Conte does not step in and give the captain a contract extension.

John Terry’s personality will be missed in our dressing room if he leaves this summer due to his natural leadership skills and the way he keeps our team under control. We have already seen how our defence looks without him since his injuries stopped him from playing several games this season. Our defence looks more stable when he plays as he keeps the back four together which is what every great team is based on.

We have already lost great legends since that Champions League winning spine from 2012 such as Frank Lampard, Didier Drogba, Petr Cech and Ashley Cole. We have already seen the impact that this had on our team and then had to find replacements which has been difficult at times, such as Diego Costa missing several games due to suspensions, Thibaut Courtios being out for several months due to injury, Matic and Fabregas struggling in the midfield and Ivanovic also having howlers at times.

So to lose a player with the talent and inspiration on and off the field that John Terry has would be a poor start to Antonio Conte’s career at Chelsea due to letting one of the most popular players at Chelsea. Would be unfair to see Terry, the symbol of the great Chelsea Football Club, being let to leave without even a try to sign a contract renewal with him.

One of the ways that Antonio could let him continue at the club would be to allow him to keep playing at the club and keep him playing regularly. If Terry’s up for it, Conte could also play him from the bench so that you still have an influential player to keep the dressing room motivated through good and bad times.

The Italian could also offer him an advisory role such as a coach or assistant. This would keep a consistent figure in the dressing room as someone who knows what it means to the fans to put on the blue shirt week in a week out during the season, and the pride and passion to put into every performance.

John Terry knows what it means to be involved and growing up with the club all the way through his career. He knows what the club means to the fans.

If John Terry leaves in the summer altogether, it is a poor decision from both Chelsea FC’s board and the management staff, as the player clearly is keen to stay himself, having a lot to offer for the club.
