Chelsea plotting surprise bid for Manchester City striker

Chelsea are reportedly keen on signing Stevan Jovetic, as Antonio Conte looks to strengthen the Blues’ attacking force for next season, Daily Star reports.

The Montenegro international failed to make an expected impact during his spell at Manchester City and was so loaned out to Inter Milan for this season.

The Italian side have already paid an additional £12.5m to keep the player after his loan deal at San Siro runs out, but according to reports the Beneamata have changed their mind and are already looking for other attackers.

Conte though is a big fan of the player having already tried to sign the former Fiorentina man twice during his time as Juventus’ manager.

As Juve’s efforts to bring the player to Turin fell through, Manchester City stepped in and signed the 26-year-old with a £23 million transfer fee in 2013.

However Jovetic was prone to several injuries and only scored eight times in his 28 appearances for the club.

But Conte is still keen on signing the international skipper as his £90,000-a-week salary is predictably seen very suitable, and his ability increasing the striker competition in the team.
