Report: Chelsea and United in ‘pole position’ for Paul Pogba

Reports in Italy suggest that Premier League giants Chelsea and Manchester United lead the race to sign Juventus star Paul Pogba in the summer.

Gazzeta report that Antonio Conte’s proposed move to become the next permanent manager at Stamford Bridge could play a crucial role in deciding the destination of the midfielder.

Pogba played under Conte, now manager of the Italian national team, for two years at Juventus and many correctly point out that Pogba was given his first major chance at top level football by the 46 year-old.

Former Juventus boss Antonio Conte could play a crucial role in deciding Paul Pogba’s future, should he become the next Chelsea manager.

The report also notes that Manchester United can strongly challenge Chelsea for Pogba if Jose Mourinho replaces Louis van Gaal as manager at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils may have the upper hand on Chelsea if they can secure Champions League football next season after PSG knocked the Blues out of the competition on Wednesday evening, effectively ending their hopes of qualification this year.

However, one would assume Pogba would be unlikely to favour a return to the red half of Manchester after his frustrating spell there between 2009 and 2012, before his move to the Italian giants.

Manchester City and incoming boss Pep Guardiola also hold a ‘20% chance’ of signing the 22 year-old. This is in comparison to Chelsea and United’s 30%.

The Italian outlet report that bidding for the player would start at $80 million Euros, with Barcelona and Real Madrid also inevitably interested in the midfielder.

So – in conclusion – we’re no closer to knowing what Paul Pogba’s next move will be, and we’re sure rumours will continue until the end of the summer and beyond.
