Mikel earns Nigeria captaincy

Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has been named as the new captain of the Nigeria national side.

Nigeria new coach Samson Siasia wishes the role to be given to the longest-serving player, handing the armband to the 28-year-old over the former-captain Ahmed Musa.

Mikel has 72 appearances for Nigeria and will be awarded for being the current squad’s most appeared player after Friday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Egypt.
