Hiddink: My successor won’t find it easy in Chelsea

The current Chelsea interim manager Guus Hiddink believes his next replacement at the club will find it extremely difficult to rebuild a strong team as he believes Chelsea is no longer part of the European elite team.

The Dutch manager took over when Jose Mourinho got sacked from the club back in October last year.

Chelsea currently sits 12th in the Premier League and was defeated 2-1 by PSG in the first leg of the Champions League.

Shortly after the game, Hiddink admitted he was very jealous of PSG’s squad mainly because of their bench which proved to be main factor of their victory, as what comes to Chelsea’s side – only one substitute was used that night.

Hiddink realises the immense task that the next manager faces when he takes over at the club, speaking to the Guardian saying:

It’s not a small job. I mean I don’t want to open up too much but everyone has to make good analysis about the strength of the squad, about the weakness of the squad, and accordingly they have to react in building up, or making the squad stronger for next season. That’s not a small job.

Hiddink insisted he is not the boss and cannot make any decisions but would like his advice to be considered by the board and the owner.

I don’t want to go into details. I am here in the interim period and the people who are not responsible for the every day, every week stuff and games, they have the longer vision of what is the need of this club, they are in charge to do that.
