Fabregas: We still have to improve, we have big games coming up

Cesc Fabregas told Eden Hazard he should have taken the penalty Oscar missed in the FA Cup rout of Manchester City this afternoon.

The Blues were handed a second-half spot-kick after Martin Demichelis was adjudged to have nudged Bertrand Traore in the back and Oscar stepped up to take it. Oscar blazed one over from 12 yards against Watford on Boxing Day while Hazard made no mistake in the last round against MK Dons.

“I told him he has to take it,” Fabregas said. “You score one, you have to want more.”

Hazard was the regular penalty taker last season but he missed one in the Capital One Cup shootout against Stoke City in October.

“Yes I wanted to take the penalty but Oscar missed the last one [here against Watford] and missed one today,” he said. “But it’s not important.”

Hazard did find the back of the net from a dead-ball situation further out, beating Willy Cabellero with a fizzing free-kick from 20 yards for the fourth.

“We did very well in the second half,” said Hazard after the 5-1 win fifth-round win. “The target is to win the FA Cup. If we want to win it, we have to beat the best teams. We deserved to win.”

Fabregas feels Chelsea are starting to look more like the side who cruised to the Premier League title last season.

“You can see straight away we are playing better,” the Spaniard said. “The confidence is growing and growing. We still have to improve, we have big games coming up. The Champions League is a big challenge is as well.”
