Courtois: FA Cup or Champions League title can salvage Chelsea’s season

Chelsea stopper Thibaut Courtois has stated how the team has to turn their league games into points and go for the glory in FA Cup or Champions League to save the nightmare season they’ve had.

Despite an honorable 11-game unbeaten run in all competitions the reigning champions are sitting on the 13th place and hardly seem to make it to top four.

The Belgium international opened up to talk about turning draws to victories on Chelsea’s official site after the 1-1 tie at the Bridge against Manchester United, also stressing how some of the fixtures should’ve been claimed as easy points for The Blues.

After their [Manchester United’s] goal we had some chances and in the end we scored, so it was a good draw. Obviously we wanted to win but sometimes you have to take a point. We had a positive reaction after going 1-0 down.

We’ve had too many draws to climb the table. In other games, like against Watford and West Brom, we should have won, so it’s a pity because we could have maybe been ninth or eighth but we are where we are.

Nevertheless, the 23-year-old is hopeful Chelsea have the ability to rescue their unsuccessful season with a Cup triumph as the ‘supporters deserve it’.

We play in the Champions League and FA Cup against two great sides (Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City) and we have to try to win those games because the only way to save our season is to reach the final in one or both of them.

Chelsea were once again drawn to play the Ligue 1 leaders, for the third time in a row, with the first leg being played at Parc des Princes on February 6th.

Courtois says the team is going into the match with high confidence as the team has barely conceded a goal in the past few games.

We have the confidence to go to PSG and win the game; we know it’s really difficult, last year we had a really tough game there but we want to get a good result to bring back to Stamford Bridge and finish it here.
