Conte looks to bring £70m Pogba with him to Chelsea

Antonio Conte will make Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba his main transfer target if the Italian coach gets the job at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are still looking for a replacement for José Mourinho as Guus Hiddink will depart at the end of the season as agreed, and Italy coach Conte is currently the leading candidate for the job.

Conte held talks with Chelsea representantives last month and after going through some of his transfer targets planned for the club this summer, Pogba was named as his first choice.

According to Daily Mail, another meeting is due to take place next month as the Italian turned down a request from the Italian football federation to discuss a new deal with the national side.

Conte won the Serie A title with Pogba himself two years in a row before leaving the club in 2014, and in 2013 the 22-year-old even said the manager made him one of the world’s greatest players:

He is the perfect man to help me achieve my aims.

The former Manchester United player was not the only high-profile name on Conte’s shortlist as also players such as Atletico Madrid defender José Gimenez and Paris Saint-Germain’s Ezequiel Lavezzi and Marco Verratti were mentioned.

Chelsea are hoping to agree the deal with Conte before Euro 2016 to avoid the speculation in the middle of the campaign – similiar to Louis Van Gaal’s United move.
