Chelsea 1-1 Manchester United – Match Report

Straight from the kick-off United showed how they had a performance of the season under them coming from a 3-0 win against Stoke City earlier in the week. The away side were in total control of the first 20 minutes and gained a total of 9 corners inside the first half an hour.

Chelsea started to wake up closer to the half-time whistle but De Gea was able to keep the game goalless. With the last kick of the half Chelsea were appealing for a what should’ve been a penalty as Terry’s shot struck to Blind’s arm while trying to make a block.

As the second half started it was like we were back at the very beginning of the game with Manchester United continuing to build up pressure on the home side, and the fixture got an unexpected turn when Zouma landed very painfully over his knee which made him scream in agony and carried away on a stretcher, who was replaced by Cahill.

Only a minute after the injury Jesse Lindgard got on the end of a cross, half-volleying the ball into the top corner making it impossible for Courtois to get in the way of the strike. Chelsea responded well to the conceded goal but faced an issue too big trying to beat an in form David De Gea between the away side’s posts. Fabregas and Ivanovic were both close to scoring but were well denied by the keeper.

In the first minute of the injury time Diego Costa got to the end of Fabregas’ through ball and despite the first effort being blocked by Borthwick-Jackson, the Spanish centre forward easily tapped in the follow-up and saved Chelsea a point from a match which was a very average performance and difficult to watch at times. Just before the final whistle the same man on the front was close to get us a winner, but once again De Gea kept United in the game.

Hiddink avoids defeat once again and keeps his unbeaten run with Chelsea going strong.
