Costa: The dressing room loves me

Diego Costa has insisted that the highly reported ‘bib-throw’ has been insignificant behind the scenes at Chelsea because “the dressing room loves me”.

Chelsea fans witnessed an improved Diego Costa in Wednesday night’s 2-0 win over Porto in the Champions League, which saw the Blues progress into the last 16, with the draw to take place on Monday.

Costa started the match, which may have surprised a few who believed he was destined for a few weeks out of the team after his childish outburst at White Hart Lane.

“People have made a party about this,” Costa said in an interview with IBTimes UK.

If I want to throw the bib at him it would have been impossible to fail because I was very close. But anyway the attitude was not good. It was disrespectful not only to him but to my team-mates.

Costa was dropped for the following fixture at home to Bournemouth, with Eden Hazard deployed in the ‘false nine’ position again.

Though Costa has only managed four in all competitions this season, the Blues failed to hit the back of the net in his absence.

Costa claimed that the incident at White Hart Lane did nothing to damage his reputation in the dressing room.

But as the dressing room loves me nothing happens.

Mourinho’s side are still struggling to sustain any form this season, but Chelsea fans will be hoping Wednesday night’s win can lift the spirits with the festive fixtures coming thick and fast.

Despite things not going well he is not to blame. One thing is when one thing doesn’t work, but when four or five players are not playing (well) it is more difficult. The manager has been fighting and encouraging us to turn this around.

We know that the manager is going to stay here until end of season. Fans like him so much, the board respect him and the players know that he is very important for us.
