Costa put on special training regime

Chelsea striker Diego Costa has been put on a specific training routine by the club in a bid to improve his fitness, report the Mail.

Costa returns to action this weekend against Aston Villa following his three-game suspension, imposed on him following an altercation with Laurent Kosielny during Chelsea’s win over Arsenal last month.

However, after admitting he returned to pre-season overweight, the Brazilian born striker has been placed on a tailored regime to regain his fitness.

With just two goals in all competitions so far this season, Chelsea will be hoping the training schedule will help Costa regain the form that fired the club to the title last campaign.

His ban, along with being omitted from the Spain squad, has meant Costa has had almost a month at Chelsea’s Cobham training ground to build up his fitness ahead of his return to action.

The former Atletico man is clearly a fan of the tailored regime, and appreciates the break he has been handed:

I have been able to train with my own specific schedule to help me get better and better.

The sessions have been good and I have been able to benefit from being here.

I have been working on what I needed to work on and I am happy about that.

Chelsea host Tim Sherwood’s Aston Villa side on Saturday afternoon and with Diego Costa likely to return to the starting lineup, Blues staff will be hoping the extra effort put in to his recovery has been worth it as they look to kickstart their season.

Eight points from as many games so far this season represents a torrid start for the Stamford Bridge side, and Costa’s return to form will be key if they are to start climbing the table in defence of their Premier League crown.
