The plans show that Chelsea’s new stadium will be able to hold around 60,000 fans. This sees an increase in capacity on our current stadium by almost 20,000.

The new stadium will cost approximately £500m to build and it will be financed by our owner, Roman Abramovich.

Chelsea would have to move out of the current Stamford Bridge temporarily for 3 seasons. Our temporary home would most likely be Wembley, with the national rugby stadium Twickenham also being mentioned.

The club submitted paperwork details and plans to the local council at the start of August and have set an ambitious target of starting work on the new stadium in May 2016.

Chelsea wouldn’t have to move to a temporary stadium until the start of the 2017/18 season as this is when the main demolition and re-construction work begins. In the first year of building, there will be work on the railway lines helping to give fans easier access to Fulham Broadway.

The Chelsea hotels (2) would have to be demolished. Likewise with the Chelsea village flats, however they will be relocated elsewhere.

The current Premier League champions would return to their home ground at the start of the 2020/21 season, providing all the building work goes to plan.
