New signing Baba Rahman’s first words

Chelsea’s new signing Baba Rahman has insisted that he would be delighted to play in any position for the club.

The 21-year-old officially joined the Premier League defending Champions after an impressive last season with Augsburg in Bundesliga. The Ghana international plays predominantly as a left-back but he has played as a winger early in his career.

Baba Rahman’s success was one of the reasons for the rise of Augsburg last year as the team finished fifth. He was speaking to Chelsea’s official site

I can play as a winger but I haven’t played in midfield for a while.

I’m a left-back and, as a defender, it’s important for me to be strong in the tackle, which I always try to be. I also like to get forward as much as possible and help the team in attack.

The defender is the third signing of the summer for the Blues after the signing of Asmir Begovic and a loan move for Radamel Falcao. Baba is signed as a replacement for Filipe Luis who departed Stamford Bridge to reunite with Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid.

There is a feeling within the club that Baba Rahman could feature sooner than expected for the first team. Though the season is just two games old, the regular right-back Branislav Ivanovic had a very poor start and was hounded by fast wingers.

This could mean the current left-back Cesar Azpilicueta moving to right and Baba Rahman slotting to the left side. And the youngster is ready to take his options to help his club win trophies.

My main aim is to win trophies for the club. Obviously Chelsea won the Premier League last season and I hope we can repeat that, and do even more. That’s what I hope to achieve

The Blues’ supporters also hope that the young defender goes on to achieve great things at Stamford Bridge.
