Piazon: Staying at Chelsea a ‘waste of time’

Lucas Piazon has spoken out about his uncertain future. Earlier today, Gustavo Faldon and Tiago Leme of ESPN Brazil released some interesting quotes from Piazon himself that suggest he is not a happy camper.

The twenty-one year old is still a highly rated youngster with loads of potential, but he’s really seemed to fade away since joining Chelsea four years ago. The midfielder is set to endure a fourth consecutive season on loan from the club.

His past trials haven’t exactly worked out for him either. Although many thought that the Brazilian had the potential to be a star one day, Piazon is a typical victim of Chelsea Football Club’s harmful loan strategy.

He joined in 2011 and spent that season playing in the club’s youth academy. The first half of the 2012/2013 season was when Lucas Piazon missed a penalty in his impressive Chelsea debut as The Blues enjoyed an 8-0 thrashing of Aston Villa.

In January, he moved to Malaga on loan until the end of the season. This was followed by a spell with Chelsea partner Vitesse Arnhem, followed by a full season in Germany with Eintracht Frankfurt. In total, throughout Piazon’s two-and-a-half loan spells, the attacking midfielder has scored just thirteen goals in sixty-two appearances.

Eleven of those were scored at Vitesse, where it can be said that the Brazilian had a successful campaign. However, he is coming off of a disappointing 2014/2015 expedition with Frankfurt where he scored just twice in twenty-two appearances. Piazon really didn’t get on well last season, and it’s left him frustrated ahead of what looks like another loan.

Lucas Piazon is currently with Brazil’s under-23 squad in Canada, playing in the Pan American Games. After winning their first game of this year’s tournament by a score of 4-1, the youngster had this to say about his Chelsea future…

I do not want to stay there [at Chelsea]. It will be waste of time to stay there, on the bench, playing a game every two weeks. I’d rather go out and play virtually every game this year.

Lucas Piazon is a Chelsea player until 2017, but it is clear to see that he is becoming fed up with the way his tenure as a member of the club has played out. With Chelsea’s first team being stocked with midfielders and Jose Mourinho on the hunt for even more, Piazon’s days in west London could be numbered.
