New York Red Bulls vs Chelsea: Match Preview

Chelsea kick off their pre-season against the New York Red Bulls in the early hours of Thursday morning (UK Time) in the International Champions Cup.

New York Red Bull’s last game didn’t finish how they wanted as they lost on penalties to Philadelphia Union after 120 minutes in Florida in the ICC a few days ago. They are mid-way through their season, therefore they are more match fit than Chelsea.

Chelsea haven’t played a single match since our 1-0 win over Sydney FC in our end of season friendly. Remy the only scorer in that game.

The Red Bull’s main threat will be ex Premier League forward Bradley Wright-Phillips, and ex Championship forward Mike Grella. The two have scored 12 goals in 20 appearances this season between them.

American pundits from Fanatix are saying Chelsea will face a tough test in New Jersey and they will need to play well in order to avoid any slip-ups before our Premier League campaign kicks off.

Date: Thursday, July 23 (UK) [Wednesday, July 22 (USA)]

Time: 1 a.m. UK time [8 p.m. EST]

Location: Red Bull Arena, Harrison, New Jersey
