Diego Costa sets personal targets

Ahead of the new season, Diego Costa has spoken about the club’s goal of both European and Domestic success, alongside setting a personal target of adding to his goal tally and suffering less with injuries.

The Spanish international is eyeing silverware in both the Premier League and in Europe, and hopes to carry his impressive goal scoring ratio going.

26-year-old Costa swapped life at Atletico Madrid for Chelsea last summer, in a deal worth a valued £32m. In the opening half of last campaign, he was one of the hottest strikers in the Premier League, banging in goals for fun.

Despite his many injuries, the striker netted 20 times in 26 Premier League appearances in his first season in England. Now, he believes that him and his team-mates need to be aiming higher, and pushing for European glory for the first time since 2013.

In an interview with The Sunday People, Costa said:

Our objectives haven’t changed. Chelsea are Premier League champions and this season we must try to repeat our success and fight to get to the final of the Champions League – that is a minimum for our supporters and ourselves.

“The only demand I am putting on myself for the new season is to have less problems with injury. The experience was not good during the past campaign.

“And while I never think about a target number of goals my challenge to myself is just to score, score, score. That will guarantee success and victory for Chelsea and that really is my objective.”

The Spaniard admitted that the first season in English football showed him just how tough it really is, and states his thoughts that FIVE teams will be up at the top come the end of the next campaign.

Costa continued by saying:

“Any club is able to beat the top side and that demands a total fight in every match,”

“Who are the favourites for the Premier League title this season? That hasn’t changed. Manchester City, Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool. Along with the Blues, the champions will come from that group.”
