Chelsea up interest in Aranguiz

Adam Skinner of The Daily Express has today reported that Chelsea are looking into the possibility of signing Charles Aranguiz.

The twenty-six year old caught the attention of a host of Europe’s top clubs with his impressive performances at this year’s Copa America. The midfielder was a key figure in a Chilean side that was able to win the tournament on their home soil by vanquishing Argentina on penalty kicks a little over a week ago.

Aranguiz, a box-to-box midfielder, is described by FIFA’s official website as “a crafty, tigerish midfielder of the highest order, notable for his ability to win and distribute the ball, pick out passes and hit the back of the net”.

Although the Chilean is just a midfielder, he does have an eye for goal. Aranguiz scored twice at the Copa America this past month, and netted in Chile’s shock win against Spain in last year’s World Cup.

Since the conclusion of the Copa America, rumours have been floating around that Aranguiz might possibly link up with fellow countrymen Alexis Sanchez at Arsenal or Manuel Pellegrini at Manchester City.

However, Jose Mourinho is apparently monitoring the player and may be interested in making a move for him. Charles Aranguiz is currently a member of Internacional in Brazil – the same club that Oscar joined Chelsea from a few years back. Adam Skinner of The Daily Express has suggested that the two clubs are on good terms since the Oscar deal, and this may give Chelsea a better chance of signing the Chilean.
