Are new signings really needed?

There is still plenty of time left in the 2015 summer transfer window. Chelsea have completed the signings of Radamel Falcao (on loan) and Asmir Begovic on a permanent deal. Still, fans are calling for more deals to be completed.

From a Twitter fans perspective, it is known many fans would like to see Pedro, Antoine Griezmann or even a return of ex-Chelsea wide man, Arjen Robben. This is because while Willian and Juan Cuadrado are brilliant wingers, they lack end product which is something we need.

But, what if the problem isn’t actually Willian like the say. Let’s look at the star man, Eden Hazard. Now the current Premier League player of the season, Hazard enjoyed probably the best season of his career, in which he also won the Premier League and Capital One Cup respectively. How did he do it?

Mourinho is known for controversially “parking the bus” or playing a defensive style of football. This tactic argues points over style of play. But Eden Hazard, he is not defensive at all. He is able to do this though because of one reason and one man, Cesar Azpilicueta.

See, the difference between Eden Hazard and Willian, to an extent, is the men that play behind them. Same goes for Oscar and Juan Cuadrado. Azpilicueta is known for his defending and he hardly bombards forward like Ivanovic.

Ivanovic is not a bad player by any means, but the attacking presence, while he has scored a few important goals, should actually be what needs to change. Ivanovic will still grab five goals a season at least from set pieces. So why is it that we limit Willian’s attacking output for the Serbian getting involved?

This is why even signing an Antoine Griezmann or Pedro would not help as much as you’d think, unless the runs from Ivanovic stop. Should the attacking mindset stop from him,it would leave the defence more organized and prepared for counter attacks, as well as allow the right wing in particular to produce more offensively.

So, is right wing really still the problem, or should Chelsea invest more money into a different position?
