Salomon Kalou in trouble after appearing to damage the Berlin wall

The former Chelsea player may have to pay a heavy fine after he was caught damaging the Berlin Wall with a hammer during a television report.

Salomon Kalou currently plays for the German side, Hertha Berlin and the incident is believed to have happened after the 2-2 draw with Schalke.

The incident was intended to represent the Ivory Coast player attempting to break the Schalke’s defence, and he may have to pay a fine of up to £10,000. The Berlin wall is a protected monument dating back from the fall of the German democratic side in 1991.

Kani Alavi who is the chairman of the gallery which owns the copyright from all the graffitis on the wall, was deeply shocked.

I nearly fell off the sofa when I saw the footage. Here we have a well-paid celebrity increasing his market value at the expense of a national monument. Without respect and with the clear backing of television.

Salomon Kalou was on his own during the incident but could have been arrested if security would have been patrolling around the site.

“Just because there is no security patrolling the Gallery, doesn’t mean you can go around doing what you want. If he had done that at the Brandenburg Gate, the player would probably have been arrested,” added Kani Alavi.
