Post Match Swansea: Headlines

After our 5-0 victory over Swansea, a very happy Mourinho spoke to the media.

Oscar opened the scoring with a very early goal. Costa then scored Chelsea’s 2nd and 3rd. Oscar added his second of the game in the second half before substitute Schurrle scored the final goal of the game, Chelsea’s fifth.

Mourinho started off by describing his thoughts on the game.

‘It was the perfect game. Everything went in our direction.

To score in the first minute immediately gives a different game. To be 4-0 up at half-time is not game over, especially in the Premier League, but itÂ’s a good situation to control it and we did that in the second half.

I prefer to say the team played very well. The team was solid defensively and in attack obviously they took chances and were aggressive in the way they thought. They had ambition.

Swansea City v Chelsea - Premier League

The team is playing with high quality and with a clear identity of playing. Sometimes teams are good and play well but without a clear identity. This team all season have been trying to go in a certain direction where we have a certain kind of way to play football.’

Mourinho also acknowledged that it was a boost that Swansea had some players missing.

‘It’s fair to say this game was difficult to prepare for them without three players in the same position. To play without Shelvey, Britton and Ki would be the same as us playing without Fabregas, Matic and Mikel.

In that area of the pitch it’s important for them because they are a team that want to play football and wants to play out from the back. When you don’t have these players with the routine and the dynamic they normally have it’s a problem.’

Mourinho then gave the fans an insight on the situation of Courtois.

‘It is better, much better but if you have an injury in your finger – even if you are ready to play – you don’t train the same way.

During the week you protect the injury you have so I had no doubts in making the choice. I was happy with Petr’s performance, he’s confident and at the top of his potential.’

‘Our next game is always the biggest game. We have that game on Tuesday and the Capital One Cup becomes the most important competition, it’s as simple as that.’
