Strikers Chelsea Should Be Chasing

This is the fifth transfer window since Didier Drogba left Chelsea in 2012. Up until now, we have failed to properly replace him.

In July, we finally signed Diego Costa for £32 million, a proven world-class talent with age on his side. Now, suddenly, everyone seems to think that we will dominate the Premier League.

This is not the case.

One injury to Costa and we are stuck with Fernando Torres and Didier Drogba, neither of whom are good enough to perform at the level required to start at a top Premier League club, all sentiment aside. Here I review some possible targets for Mourinho.

Edinson Cavani

A proven talent in Serie A, Cavani would not only be great back up for Diego Costa but also could challenge for his place in the starting eleven. In 158 appearances, 18 substitute, the striker has managed 120 goals in his professional career.

SSC Napoli v Paris Saint-Germain FC - Preseason Friendly

Chelsea would not be doing much wrong signing the Uruguayan. It is widely known that he is unhappy in his role at PSG, and could be available for around £40 million, money which Chelsea have.

Javier Hernandez

Not a regular starter for Manchester United, the Mexican is an excellent finisher and has shown this by scoring 37 Premier League goals in just 48 starts.

Croatia v Mexico: Group A - 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil

‘Chicharito’ would be a smart buy for Mourinho, and he could be available for around £15 million, which is virtually nothing to Mr Abramovich. If available at that price, Mourinho should have no hesitation.

Wilfried Bony

The Swansea striker has spent one year in the Premier League, and has been the stand out performer in a very average team. In the Eredivisie, Bony scored 46 goals in 62 starts, which is an extremely productive return.

Greece v Cote D'Ivoire: Group C - 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil

Swansea are looking to make a profit on the 25 year old, so the Ivorian may be available for £12 – 15 million.

Jackson Martinez

The Colombian has recently signed a new deal with Porto, and his release clause is a huge £35 million, so signing him would be massively overpaying for a relatively average striker.

Japan v Colombia: Group C - 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil

Nevertheless, he has produced some decent stats over the past couple of years, and he could make a Premier League or La Liga switch next year, if he keeps up his good form.

Which striker would you like to see sign for Chelsea?
