Hazard staying at the bridge

Chelsea’s player of the year Eden Hazard has revealed he is in talks with Chelsea over a new contract, allaying fan fears that he could be off to France.

Hazard, who scored 17 goals this season including a number of wonderful individual efforts, has been heavily linked with a move back to France, with PSG manager Laurent Blanc a known admirer of the Belgian.

Speaking to Belgian newspaper Le Derniere Heure, he said: “I am staying at Chelsea 100 per cent.

“Of course in football you never know but I am under contract with Chelsea and I want to stay there. And I am in discussions with Chelsea for a new contract.

“It is only the beginning of the talks right now so we have time, but the fact that Chelsea have offered me a new deal means they have a lot of confidence in me that I can do a good job and that they can count on me.

“PSG never made any suggestions to me personally.”

If Hazard signs a new contract it would be a huge boost for Chelsea, given the departures of fan favourites David Luiz and Frank Lampard. To lose Hazard as well would have been very damaging for Jose Mourinho.

With the potential signing of Diego Costa looming, fans have a lot to look forward to for next season when Mourinho will look to end Manchester dominance and bring the Premier League back to Stamford Bridge for the first time in five years.
