Torres and Azpilicueta make the cut for Spain

Chelsea duo Fernando Torres and Cesar Azpilicueta will be heading to Brazil after making the cut for Spain’s final World Cup squad.

Vicente Del Bosque announced his final 23-man squad on Saturday and the list included the Chelsea duo who have experienced very different fortunes in the season just past.

Fernando Torres scored just 11 goals for the Blues last season while Cesar Azpilicueta was consistently solid in his unnatural position of left-back, keeping Ashley Cole out of the starting line-up.

However, this will be Torres’ third World Cup and the striker always seems to pull it out the bag for his country, winning the golden boot at Euro 2012 as Spain lifted the trophy.

This will be Cesar Azpilicueta’s first World Cup after just 6 appearances for the national side, including the friendly win over Bolivia last night (Friday), in which he played the full 90 minutes at right-back and Torres scored from the spot.

Chelsea fans will also get the opportunity to see Diego Costa, who Chelsea look certain to sign, as he was also named in the squad after choosing to play for Spain over his native Brazil.

Fernando Torres’ inclusion sees Alvaro Negredo miss out along with Manchester City teammate Jesus Navas. Former Blue Juan Mata has earned a spot in the squad after a strong finish to the season with Manchester United.

Arsenal’s Santi Cazorla and Manchester United’s David De Gea also make the cut. Surprisingly, David Silva is the only Manchester City player heading to Brazil with the Spain squad.
