Diego Costa agrees to Chelsea move?

Atltico Madrid striker Diego Costa has agreed a deal to move to Chelsea in the summer, according to widespread reports throughout the day on Friday.

The deal was supposedly sewn up at a meeting in London less than 24 hours after the Brazilian-born striker had scored a penalty to help send his current club through to the Champions League final against his possible future club, Chelsea.

According to Goalthe striker has agreed to a deal that will see Chelsea pay Atléti £35 million, which will include fees such as those paid to agents to go with the striker’s apparent £30 million buy-out clause.

His wages will also significantly increase, from a reported £50,000 per week at the Spanish club to a supposed £150,000 at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea hope to confirm the deal before Costa heads to the World Cup to represent Spain.

Costa has scored 36 goals in 49 appearances for Madrid this season, which has seen his club climb to the top of Spanish La Liga as well as that Champions League final which Chelsea missed out on at the final hurdle.

Since Chelsea focused their interest on the striker there have been many reports of boyhood Atléti fan Fernando Torres returning to his first club, as well as a possible extended loan stay in Spain for goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, both of which may have played a part in the ‘confirmed’ deal for Costa.

Of course, this could all be speculation and Chelsea could miss out on yet another big name that they have targeted, but earlier in the year Atlético manager Diego Simeone opened the door for a move to England for Costa:

“I will support any decision he [Costa] makes. It is natural that Chelsea are interested in him.”

Chelsea’s lack of options up front have been well documented this season and this move for Costa, as well as being the possible answers to their striking woes, will almost certainly open up the door for one or more of Chelsea’s current strikers to leave the club in the summer.

Mourinho will also look to strengthen other areas of the side as he looks to improve on this season and go on to take the Premier League by the scruff of the neck next campaign.

It is certainly looking like an exciting transfer period for Chelsea supporters.
